Supporting Local Charities
In addition to nationally recognised charities, Birchwood Shopping Centre also supposts and helps to raise funds for local causes, including:
The current beneficiary of the proceeds from the Honesty Library that is now established within the mall. Risley Moss is a wonderful site, where you can not only relax and enjoy the environment, but also experience its wonderful rare habitats and wildlife.
Currently setting out to raise funds to replace the iconic tower that was destroyed by fire, Risely Moss Action Group (RIMAG) is a registered charity (No 1041935) that has provided community-based support for Risely Moss nature reserve since first being formed to campaign against proposed closure in 1990. RIMAG aims to access funding to support the site Ranger Service in their management of public events, which include guided walks, children’s activities and other events in the wider community. RIMAG also provides physical support for large scale site management tasks, for example clearance of the encroaching scrub, which is required for the protection and recovery of the mossland habitatt. RIMAG has an ongoing programme of surveying wildlife on the site, assisting the Rangers to monitor nesting birds, dragonflies and butterflies. For more information, visit the website rimag.org.uk
With their north west office based in Birchwood, Brainwave is a charity that helps children with disabilities and additional needs to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physcial therapies.
Brainwave believes in a world where every child with disabilities reaches their potential and the children that they work with have range of conditions including autism, brain injuries and genetic disorders. Brainwave’s therapists are drawn from the mainstream fields of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech, language and educational therapy, working with families to devise a unique programme, specifically designed to suit their children’s needs, which help and encourage them to unlock their child’s potential. Birchwood Shopping Centre sponsors various events to support Brainwave, including Santa dash.
